In his newly released autobiography, Jenson Button was considering signing for Toro Rosso for the 2009 season of F1.
In his autobiography “Life to the Limit” the F1 racer said that the withdrawal of honda at the end of the 2008 season allowed him to consider driving for Red Bull’s junior outfit as when Vettle moved up to the senior squad there was an opening.
Even with this consideration, Button decided not to go with the Toro Rosso drive resulting in him staying with the former Honda team when it became ‘Brawn GP’ and won in 2009. So overall some would say a good choice on his behalf.
“One option was to race for Toro Rosso, Red Bull’s junior team,” he said in his book. “I loved them; they had and still do have great spirit and attitude, but I knew I’d never get close to a podium in their car. What’s more, they wanted me to bring money in the form of sponsorship to help fund the team, which was singularly unappealing.”
Life to the Limit’ by Jenson Button (Blink Publishing) is out now.
